Explorers worked on pinning specimens for their entomology collection they will enter in the Pitt County Fair this fall. After they had pinned all mounting ready specimens, they explored the various gardens around the Pitt County Cooperative Extension to find more insects for their collection. They also found a tomato horn worm with braconid wasp larva which was quite interesting to see. The morning proved fruitful. Their pin boards are full as are their specimen vials.

Explorers set up an information table at Wahl-Coates' Open House. The four returning members of the club were on hand to talk about projects they conducted last year and over the summer as well as discuss their upcoming project on stormwater. As part of their stormwater project, they had students and their families complete a quiz on stormwater. It covered such topics as: watershed, point and non point source pollution, water chemistry, etc. The quiz was given prior to the Explorers distributing any education on the topic. It will serve as their baseline. Students and families will be given the same quiz at the end of the school year. The scores from both instances will be compared to determine how much growth in knowledge on the subject Wahl-Coates experienced. We were delighted by the amount of participants we had take the quiz and by the amount of students that were interested in potentially joining the club. We would like to thank the WC Media Center for these pictures. NanoDays
