These four Explorers worked over the summer and into early fall assembling this collection of insects. They entered their entomology collection, Summer Collection, into the Pitt County Fair for competition. Their hard work paid off. They placed 3rd in their age group. We are super proud of these Explorers. Resources:
Explorers were presented with the Stormwater Management Education grant from the City of Greenville Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) on Thursday, June 7th. The grant will fund a yearlong project, Wahl-Coates Water Monitoring, at Wahl-Coates conducted by the Wahl-Coates Explorers 4-H Science Club. The Wahl-Coates Water Monitoring project will be implemented by the Wahl-Coates Explorers 4-H science club students. Explorers will monitor Green Mill Run Creek that flows behind Wahl-Coates Elementary School. The project will focus upon three areas of activity: 1) monthly baseline monitoring, 2) targeted monitoring and surveys, and 3) water quality education. A big thank you goes out to Heather Jacobs Deck (Pamlico-Tar River Foundation RIVERKEEPER), Dr. Thad Wasklewicz (ECU Professor of Geography) and Chena Cayton (Wahl-Coates Prinicpal). Mrs. Wasklewicz could not have written the grant without their buy-in and support.
